Things to Consider When Selecting a Compactor

News & Updates Things to Consider When Selecting a Compactor

Posted On: Nov 7, 2022

Selecting a compactor doesn't have to be difficult. At Waste Equipment Rentals & Sales we want to help you choose the best compactor to meet your business's needs. When thinking about what compactor is best suited for you, here are some things to consider and think about:

  • Volume of Waste Generated: How much waste do you typically generate in a day/week/month? Will the compactor be adequate to handle the volume generated, specifically at peak loading times?

  • Size of Waste: What are the dimensions of the largest box, bag, etc. that you will be disposing of? Will the compactor opening be large enough to accommodate these objects without bridging?

  • Type of Waste: Will you be disposing of dry or wet waste or a mixture of both? Dry waste is efficiently compacted by a stationary compactor. Wet waste is handled best y a self-contained compactor.

  • Ease-of-Use: Is the compactor conveniently located? What is the loading height? Does it have steps? Is it easy to feed?

  • Available Space: Is there space for the compactor and collection truck to service the compactor? Are overhead clearances adequate (of any)?

  • Suitable Voltage: Is adequate power available? Three-Phase? Single-Phase?

  • Collection Equipment Compatibility: is the compactor compatible with local waste collection equipment?

  • Installation: Does the installation require a thru-the-wall chute, a doghouse, a hopper configuration, etc.?
